Workers working in toxic environments
On October 3, implementing the direction of the leaders of Bao Loc city (Lam Dong), the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (DOLISA) of the city coordinated with the People's Committee of Dai Lao commune to organize a meeting with workers who have been working at Bao Loc Waste Treatment Plant.
The factory is operated by Friendly Green Environment Joint Stock Company. However, this unit has been owing workers wages for many months.
From December 2023 to present, about 70 workers and laborers working at Bao Loc Waste Treatment Plant have been owed wages, totaling more than 1.7 billion VND.
The company has repeatedly promised and committed but has not yet paid off the workers' salary debt. Up to now, Friendly Green Environment Joint Stock Company has only paid a portion of the workers' salary (more than 400 million VND).
It is worth mentioning that most of the workers come from many localities inside and outside Lam Dong province. They work at the waste treatment plant in a toxic and difficult environment.
Most of the workers are from poor backgrounds. Many families rely entirely on their income from working at the Bao Loc Waste Treatment Plant.
Through practical research, it is shown that there are currently 2 groups of workers working for Bao Loc Waste Plant in 2 forms.
One group directly signed a contract with Friendly Green Environment Joint Stock Company. The remaining group are workers who are contracted to handle waste with the company.
At the meeting, the authorities listened to the opinions, recommendations as well as the thoughts and aspirations of the workers.
Verify and clarify violations
Mr. Dinh Cong Huyen - Deputy Head of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Bao Loc city said that the fact that Friendly Green Environment Joint Stock Company owes workers and laborers long-term wages is a violation of labor laws.
The Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs will coordinate with relevant agencies to collect employees' records and documents to have a basis for working with Friendly Green Environment Joint Stock Company.
"The Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs will implement measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of employees. At the same time, verify and clarify the company's violations to propose competent authorities to handle them according to regulations," Mr. Huyen emphasized.
In addition, the authorities of Bao Loc city and the People's Committee of Dai Lao commune also analyzed and clarified related issues. The authorities encouraged the workers to return to their localities while waiting for the authorities to handle the case.
This is to ensure security and order, avoiding complicated problems.
On the same afternoon, the Bao Loc City Labor Federation also visited and encouraged the workers. Here, the Bao Loc City Labor Federation supported 4 million VND for 20 workers and laborers to help them pay for their travel expenses back to their hometowns.
