In 2024, Quang Ngai will be the leading unit among provinces and cities in implementing the target of developing union members.

Quang Ngai currently has over 115,000 workers, civil servants, and laborers (CNVCLD) working in agencies, units, and enterprises with grassroots unions under the management of the Provincial Federation of Labor; of which, workers and laborers working in enterprises under the Dung Quat Economic Zone Union and Quang Ngai Industrial Parks account for over 50% of the province. In 2024, Quang Ngai was assigned the target of increasing the number of union members by 10,000, including 700 union members in the informal sector.

According to Mr. Nguyen Phuc Nhan - Chairman of the Quang Ngai Provincial Federation of Labor, in order to unite and gather a large number of workers into the union organization, unions at all levels have approached businesses, met with workers, propagated and mobilized union members through activities such as legal advice, visits, gift giving, organizing cultural and sports activities, etc. Reviewing and counting businesses that are eligible to establish grassroots unions, assigning targets for performing tasks to affiliated units.

Focus on establishing grassroots unions in enterprises with 25 or more employees, developing union members in enterprises with a large number of employees in industrial parks and industrial clusters; pay special attention to promoting the development of union members in the informal sector through direct work, through the direction of Party committees, the influence of the government and through other appropriate forms such as leaflets and brochures.

Sharing with Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, fisherman Vo Tan Hung, one of the newly admitted members of Binh Hai Commune Fisheries Union, shared: “Previously, many of us did not fully understand the benefits of joining a trade union. But thanks to the members of the Mobilization Committee, the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations of Binh Hai Commune coming to our homes to propagate, we understood and decided to join the Union. As union members, we pledge not to participate in illegal fishing and are ready to support each other whenever we encounter trouble at sea.”

By the end of November 2024, the whole province had developed over 18,570 new union members, bringing the total number of union members to nearly 106,300, accounting for 92.3% of the total number of employees in the province; of which, 16,410 union members were developed, reaching 164% of the target, and nearly 950 union members were developed in the informal sector, reaching 135% of the target assigned by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.

With the above outstanding results, the Quang Ngai Provincial Labor Federation is one of 31 units nationwide to be commended and awarded a certificate of merit by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor at the Conference summarizing the work of developing union members in 2024 recently held in Hanoi and is the leading unit in the province and city block in implementing the union member development target.

Along with focusing on developing union members, the Provincial Federation of Labor directs the building of a strong union organization. The province currently has 1,214 grassroots unions, of which 22 were newly established this year. In particular, the establishment of the Binh Hai Commune Fisheries Union, Binh Son District, increased the total number to 14 fisheries unions with over 6,430 union members. This is a union force that has made significant contributions to the development of the province's marine economy and actively participated in protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
