On the afternoon of October 17, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) held a training conference on foreign affairs of Vietnam Trade Unions in 2024.

Mr. Huynh Thanh Xuan - Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor attended and gave a speech. Attending were leaders and officials directly assigned to be in charge of foreign affairs of trade unions at all levels.

Speaking at the conference, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Huynh Thanh Xuan affirmed that in recent times, Vietnamese trade unions at all levels have made many efforts to strengthen foreign affairs activities, promote international cooperation, and achieve many important results in the context of the country's increasingly deep integration.

“The results in foreign affairs have contributed to enhancing the prestige and position of the Vietnam Trade Union in the international arena; contributing to building a strong Vietnam Trade Union organization, actively contributing to the overall success of people's foreign affairs work” - Mr. Huynh Thanh Xuan assessed.

However, according to the Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, in the process of implementing foreign affairs activities, there are still some shortcomings and limitations, such as: The cooperation framework with some partners is not yet commensurate, not really in-depth and practical; not fully utilizing the support of partners; foreign affairs activities of provincial and municipal Labor Federations, central industry unions, and general corporation unions under the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor have not developed evenly. In addition, the coordination between trade union levels in implementing some foreign affairs activities is not yet smooth; foreign propaganda and information work is still monotonous; research and summarization of practical experiences of workers' movements and trade union activities in the world have not kept up with the practical situation...

Mr. Huynh Thanh Xuan commented that the above-mentioned shortcomings and limitations are due to many objective and subjective reasons, in which some of the main subjective reasons are: The staff working in foreign affairs is still lacking in quantity, experience and skills to meet the integration conditions in the new situation; awareness among a number of trade union staff about foreign affairs is not really complete and profound; research on partners at all levels of trade unions has not received due attention; trade union financial resources for foreign affairs activities are still limited.

The Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor requested delegates to attend the entire conference program, actively participate in the training content, make the most of the training time to frankly discuss unclear issues and difficulties in their practical activities to clarify issues of common concern with the reporters, accumulate and harvest a lot of useful information to improve the effectiveness of foreign affairs advice at the unit.
