Exceeded assigned target
According to the Thanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor, the total number of newly developed union members is currently 35,962 people - bringing the total number of union members in the province to 370,460 people.
Regarding the establishment of grassroots trade unions, the total number of newly established units since the beginning of the year is 131 units, including 88 grassroots trade unions and 43 grassroots trade unions. According to the target assigned by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, 88/60 grassroots trade unions have 25 or more employees, reaching 146.6%, bringing the total number of grassroots trade unions in the province to 3,836 units.
Some units have a high rate of increased union members such as the Labor Federation of Cam Thuy, Nong Cong, Nga Son, Tho Xuan, Hau Loc, Hoang Hoa, Trieu Son districts, Thanh Hoa city, Sam Son, Construction Industry Union... In the first 9 months of the year, 13 groups and 5 individuals were commended and rewarded for their achievements in mobilizing union members, establishing grassroots unions and grassroots unions.
According to Mr. Vo Manh Son - Member of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Chairman of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Confederation of Labor, the work of developing union members in Thanh Hoa is always associated with strict management and quality improvement. As a result, up to now, the whole province has updated the information of 292,011 union members on the union member management software; Trade unions at all levels have coordinated with employers to promote propaganda for union members to self-study, improve their professional qualifications, train the political qualities of the working class, introduce outstanding union members to the Party for training and consideration for admission.
In the first 9 months of the year, the whole province introduced 2,738 members to Party committees at all levels for training, and 1,859 members were admitted to the Party.
Look straight at the truth to try
According to Mr. Vo Manh Son, to achieve the above positive results, from the beginning of the year, implementing the instructions of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the Standing Committee of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Confederation of Labor has taken many measures to direct and implement the work of developing union members, establishing grassroots unions, especially directing trade unions at all levels to survey and grasp the labor situation in the informal sector, and mobilize union members to develop and establish grassroots unions.
In addition, the Provincial Federation of Labor has proactively developed and issued documents directing the work of developing union members, establishing grassroots unions; perfecting, supplementing and assigning specific tasks to the Steering Committee for Developing Union Members; establishing a special working group to grasp the situation of workers, labor relations and mobilizing union members, establishing grassroots unions and grassroots unions of the Provincial Federation of Labor...
However, Mr. Vo Manh Son also frankly pointed out that the content and methods of trade union activities at all levels, although having been innovated, still do not meet the requirements of the tasks set out in the new situation; many movements are still formal and of low quality, so they have not attracted and gathered workers to participate; the activities of the grassroots trade union have not received much attention, the content and methods of activities are still heavily administrative and business-related, so the effectiveness is not high, and has not attracted a large number of union members to participate.
“In reality, developing union members, establishing trade unions and grassroots unions also faces many difficulties such as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses facing many difficulties in production and business...” - Mr. Son said.
In the coming time, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor will deploy solutions to achieve the goals and tasks set by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; continue to assign targets for developing union members and establishing grassroots unions in 2025 to all levels of unions in the province.
