Helping union members and workers in Gia Lai rebuild shelters after the storm

Gia Lai - The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor awarded 500 million VND to support union members and workers who lost their homes and suffered heavy damage due to storm No. 13, helping them soon stabilize their lives.

On November 14, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) organized a support handover ceremony for union members and workers in Gia Lai province who lost their homes and suffered heavy damage due to storm No. 13, with a total cost of 500 million VND. Attending and presenting support was Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Huynh Thanh Xuan.

On this occasion, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor presented support to 120 union members and workers of many units and enterprises that suffered heavy damage due to the storm; each portion worth 2 million VND from a budget of 500 million VND.

Receiving support funds from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy - Vice President of the Gia Lai Provincial Federation of Labor - pledged that the Standing Committee of the Provincial Federation of Labor will deploy support to the right subjects, in accordance with regulations, ensuring that each gift reaches union members and workers affected by natural disasters.

A fulcrum to stand up from the rubble

Storm No. 13 damaged 380 houses of union members and workers in Gia Lai province. Of which, 13 houses were completely collapsed, 70 houses had their roofs completely blown off and 297 houses had their roofs partially blown off, causing great property damage.

Ms. Ho Thi Loan (48 years old, residing in Huynh Gian Bac village, Tuy Phuoc Dong commune) - a worker at Mai Tin Company Limited - shared that after a fierce storm night, her family's small house was left with a pile of ruins, buried furniture, and damage of more than 100 million VND.

"Coming back after the evacuation days, seeing the dilapidated house with a cramped heart, I don't know where this apricot tree lives. The whole family of 3 now has to stay there, waiting for the state to support the money to rebuild the house," Ms. Loan choked up.

Her husband was sick for a long time, and Mrs. Loan became the main pillar of the family. With an income of just over 5 million VND/month, life was already difficult, now even more difficult when the house was no longer there.

"The government has completed procedures to support money, I will borrow more to rebuild the house. Receiving the attention and support from the state and the Trade Union organization, I am very happy and truly warm-hearted. At this time, a dong is also valuable, saved to soon stabilize life", Ms. Loan expressed.

At the support points, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Huynh Thanh Xuan shared the losses that union members and workers in Gia Lai province suffered after storm No. 13.

According to Mr. Huynh Thanh Xuan, storm No. 13 is a storm with strong destructive power, causing great damage to infrastructure and socio-economic life in many Central provinces, of which Gia Lai is the locality heavily affected. Many union members and workers in the province have lost their homes, blown off their roofs, damaged their property, directly affecting their daily life and production at enterprises.

In that situation, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and Trade Unions at all levels have coordinated with agencies, units, organizations and individuals to implement support activities to contribute to the locality and businesses to overcome the consequences; help cadres, union members, workers and people in disaster areas gradually stabilize their lives.

"The gift shows the responsibility and affection of the Trade Union organization, in order to share difficulties and help union members and workers overcome the disaster soon," said Mr. Huynh Thanh Xuan.

The Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor hopes that union members and workers affected by the storm will soon overcome the damage, stabilize their lives, continue to work and accompany businesses in restoring production, contributing to the completion of the province's socio-economic development targets.

Visiting workers, encouraging enterprises to produce

On the same day, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Huynh Thanh Xuan visited and encouraged workers at Phu Cat Garment Joint Stock Company (Phu Cat commune).

Here, he praised the efforts of enterprises in quickly overcoming difficulties, stabilizing production activities after the storm, not allowing the production chain to be interrupted; creating sustainable jobs for workers, contributing to the development of the locality.

The Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor also hopes that workers will continue to stand side by side with businesses, make efforts to be creative in their work to contribute to helping the company develop stably and increase income.
