Apple has added the first-generation iPhone SE to its list of outdated products, meaning the device is no longer supported with repair, battery replacement or any technical services at the Apple Store and authorized service providers worldwide.
According to Apple's policy, a product is considered outdated after more than 7 years since Apple stopped distributing that device. The first version of the iPhone SE was discontinued in September 2018 and has just officially surpassed the 7-year mark.
Launched in March 2016, the first generation iPhone SE has a design based on the iPhone 5s with a 4-inch screen and home touch ID button. The device is equipped with an A9 chip similar to the iPhone 6s/6s Plus, providing significantly stronger performance than a compact appearance.
Everyone who loves a compact phone will love the iPhone SE, Phil Schiller, Apples sales director at the time, said in a product announcement.
Apple then continued to launch the second-generation iPhone SE (2020) and third-generation iPhone SE (2022). By February 2025, the SE line was completely terminated when Apple switched to the iPhone 16e, considered the successor to SE in the low-cost segment.
