Apple has now allowed Siri to move user requests to ChatGPT, providing a more context-rich answer than the usual capabilities of this virtual assistant.
At the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC24), Apple's Senior Vice President of Software, cra cra Federighi, revealed that the company wants to expand support for other artificial intelligence (AI) models, including Google Gemini.
A recent leak shows that this integration may not be far away.
In the upgraded system update along with iOS 18.4 beta, Apple added Google and OpenAI options to the list of third-party AI models in Apple Intelligence.
This information was discovered by source code analyst Aaron Perris on the X platform.
While this does not confirm for sure that Google Gemini will appear in iOS 18.4, especially in the context of many Apple Intelligence features being continuously delayed, it is almost confirmed that this integration will be available in the near future, possibly in a later iOS 18 update or iOS 19.
Apple is also expected to launch its own Siri phone model in iOS 19.
Recently, Google announced new Gemini 2.0 models, including a model specializing in reasoning. These models are likely to appear on the iPhone soon, at least for the newly launched iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16/16 Pro and iPhone 16e lines.
