Apple updated the AirPods Max with a USB-C port and new color options in September 2024, but the company reportedly has no plans to make any further changes to the headphones.
In the last update, Apple did not upgrade the chip inside AirPods Max to H2 like with AirPods Pro, making this headset still incompatible with the Adaptive Audio feature.
This feature combines two modes: Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode, providing maximum flexibility in adjusting sound according to the surrounding environment.
According to Bloomberg, Apple currently has “no specific plans” to upgrade the product’s hardware. While there is no risk of discontinuation, the AirPods Max are not on Apple’s roadmap for further development or improvement.
AirPods Max will continue to be produced and sold, but Apple is said to not consider sales of this product line high enough to invest resources for major upgrades.
The AirPods Max first debuted in 2020. Aside from new color options and the switch to USB-C, the latter device is largely identical to the original.
The product has a battery life of up to 20 hours, active noise cancellation technology and a digital crown control mechanism.
