This move comes as Apple is preparing to introduce an AI- embedded Siri version in 2026. According to Bloomberg, the upgrade will allow Siri to perform more tasks through voice commands and is partly supported by Google's Gemini technology. At the same time, Apple wants to ensure that other apps do not disclose user data to outside AI providers.
Notably, Apple has made it clear for the first time that the third-party AI group is subject to compliance with regulations. Before amending, the rule requires the application to notify, ask for permission and not to use or share the user's personal data without consent. This regulation is aimed at meeting data protection standards in California (USA). The violating application may be removed from the App Store.
In the new update, Apple adds a requirement: developers must clearly state that personal data will be shared with a third party (including a third-party AI), and must expressly ask users' permission before doing so.
This regulation may affect applications that plan to use AI systems to collect or process user data to personalize experiences or provide features. However, the level of implementation is still a question mark, because the concept of AI covers many different technologies, not only large language models but also machine learning algorithms.
Along with this change, Apple also announced a series of other updates in the application review principle, including support for the new Mini Application Program; adjusting regulations for creator applications; lending applications. The list of areas subject to strict management also includes a group of applications related to cryptocurrency exchanges.
