In recent days, Ms. Nguyen Thu Trang (Hanoi) has continuously received notifications related to subscriber confirmation before the June 15th milestone.
What worries her the most is not calling, but the phone number being used to log in to the bank, receive OTP codes and many other online services.
I use a phone number for most personal accounts. If the SIM is locked, I don't know if these services will be affected or not," Ms. Trang shared.
Meanwhile, Ms. Pham Thi Huong - owner of an online business store in Hanoi said that the phone number is currently the main communication channel with customers, shipping units and payment platforms.
If I can't call or text, my work will be affected immediately. So when I saw information about the temporary suspension of the departure service, I proactively checked all the subscribers who are in my name on VNeID," Ms. Huong said.
According to Ms. Huong, many people only care about making calls, but in fact, phone numbers have now become the "key" to many digital services in daily life.
What will the one-way lock affect?
According to regulations, subscribers who are temporarily suspended from one-way services will not be able to make outgoing calls or send SMS messages to other subscribers.
However, at this stage, subscribers can still receive incoming calls and messages.
This means that many services that are sending authentication codes or OTP via SMS messages can still operate normally if users still receive messages from the system.
With banking applications using Smart OTP or authentication right in the application, one-way locking of subscribers usually does not directly affect the transaction process.
However, users may encounter inconvenience in case they need to proactively call the bank, support switchboard or send messages to services using SMS prefixes.
When two-way locked, the level of impact will be greater
According to the current handling roadmap, after a period of one-way locking, if the subscriber has not yet completed authentication as prescribed, the network operator may continue to apply the two-way locking measure.
At that time, subscribers cannot make outgoing calls, receive incoming calls or use ordinary messaging services.
In fact, this is a stage that may generate more impacts on services linked to phone numbers.
Some online platforms still use phone numbers as a method of verifying or restoring accounts.
If you cannot receive an authentication call or message, users may have difficulty performing identity verification steps in certain situations.
Similarly, bank accounts, e-wallets or online public services that are attached to phone numbers may also be inconvenient if authentication is needed through this communication channel.
What users should do before June 15
According to the Telecommunications Authority, people should proactively check phone numbers that are in their name on VNeID and carry out subscriber status confirmation according to regulations.
Early confirmation not only helps avoid the risk of service suspension but also reduces the possibility of affecting accounts and digital services being used daily.
For phone numbers that are linked to banks, e-wallets, social insurance or important online platforms, users should be more proactive in checking the subscriber status before applying the regulation.
