Imprints of cooperation in the year of the 30th anniversary of Vietnam-US relations
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Vietnam - US diplomatic relations (1995-2025), the US Navy's destroyer USS Tripoli and cruiser USS Robert Smalls will have a 4-day friendly visit (from December 8 to 11) in Da Nang.
The group has nearly 2,300 officers and maans, led by Rear Admiral Thomas Shultz - Commander of the 7th Expeditionary Force.
The welcoming ceremony was attended by representatives of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Da Nang, the Naval Region 3 Command, the Border Guard, Military Region 5, the Department of Foreign Affairs - Ministry of National Defense and relevant agencies.


2025 marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States. The visit of the two ships USS Tripoli and USS Robert Smalls is considered a symbol of the development momentum of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established by the two countries in 2023.
Squadron 7 is the largest front force of the US Navy, continuously coordinating with partners in the region to maintain a peaceful and stable Indian-Pacific environment. In which, Special Forces 76 are responsible for deploying long-term operations, incident response and humanitarian assistance.
Rear Admiral Thomas Shultz said that the United States appreciates Vietnam's reception and considers this visit "an important milestone in demonstrating the continued development of the two countries' defense relationship".
US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper affirmed that the event will mark the end of a series of activities to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and said that the United States has supported Da Nang with 1.75 million USD to overcome natural disasters and will continue to expand security and humanitarian cooperation.
The far-reaching power of the US Navy is present in Da Nang
The US Navy's second America-class attack attack ship, 257 m long, 32 m wide, nearly 45,000 tons of water, and a speed of more than 20 knots.
The aircraft is optimally designed for F-35B Lightning II fighters, capable of taking off short ground and landing vertically. With a smooth folding and an extended cargo compartment, the USS Tripoli can carry up to 38 aircraft, including the F-35B, MV-22B Osprey and multi-purpose helicopters.
The ship is capable of deploying 1,800 marines, playing an important role in the US's advance operations.

According to the Da Nang Department of Foreign Affairs, during the stay, the ship commanding officers will meet with leaders of the City People's Committee, Military Region 5 and Navy Region 3; exchange expertise and sports with officers and soldiers of the Vietnam Navy.
The delegation will also visit Hope Village, interact with students of the University of Foreign Languages - University of Da Nang and experience the city's cultural and tourism attractions.


Da Nang has welcomed three US aircraft carrier: USS Carl Vinson (2018), USS Theodore Roosevelt (2022) and USS Ronald Reagan (2023), affirming the city's increasingly important role in defense and people-to-people foreign exchange activities.
