Huawei continues to step up competition with Apple and Samsung by releasing new wearable models including the Huawei GT 5 Series, Huawei Watch D2 and Huawei Watch Ultimate.

The Huawei GT 5 series are the first Huawei smartwatches to introduce the Huawei TruSense System, a built-in health and fitness tracking feature with upgraded sensors and improved algorithms, delivering faster, more accurate and more comprehensive results.

With a sharp “Fashion Edge” design, the Huaweit GT 5 Series comes in two versions – pro and standard, with the pro version made of titanium alloy and nanocrystalline ceramic for greater durability.

With the Huawei TruSense system, the watch introduces a new feature called emotional health assistant to help users balance their mental health. The new smartwatch also brings professional sports features, including golf and diving.

Up to 14 days of battery life with the Huawei GT 5 46mm version, and up to 7 days with the Huawei Watch GT 5 41mm and GT 5 Pro 42mm.

Huawei's latest product launches in China and Europe reflect the company's efforts to boost revenue amid growing demand for smartwatches by 2024, according to the South China Morning Post (SCMP).

Market research firm Canalys has forecast that the global smartwatch market will recover this year, with total shipments estimated at 83 million units.

According to a report by research firm IDC, Huawei led the global wearables market, including smartwatches and fitness bands, in the second quarter of this year with shipments of 8.9 million units and a market share of 20.3%. This is the second consecutive quarter that Huawei has led the market.

China continues to be the world's number 1 market in this segment, with 15.5 million devices shipped from April to June 2024, up 10.9% over the same period last year. The market share of smart watches shipped in this country alone reached 11.1 million units.

Huawei has made significant progress in regions such as the Middle East and Africa, Latin America, and Central and Eastern Europe, and has also led the Chinese wearables market since 2021, according to the IDC report.

After Huawei, the other top global wearable device vendors last quarter were Xiaomi, Apple and Samsung Electronics, IDC data showed.

Apple remains the global leader in the smartwatch segment in Q2/2024 with 49% market share, followed by Samsung (15%) and Huawei (7%). However, in the niche of basic smartwatches (less sophisticated in design, features, applications), Huawei leads globally with 15% market share.

The first generation Huawei Watch was introduced by the company in September 2015. The company's data shows that it has sold more than 150 million wearable products globally.

With the combination of "fashion and creativity", Huawei GT 5 Series, Huawei Watch D2 and Huawei Watch Ultimate promise to create heat for the smartwatch market in the near future, competing with Apple and Samsung.
