All-new H3 chip
According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, AirPods Pro 3 will be equipped with a completely new H3 chip.
Typically, Apple's new chips only bring small improvements. This has been seen with the M-series chips in Macs and iPads, the A-series chips in iPhones, and even the S-class chips in the Apple Watch.
However, the upgrades from the H-series of AirPods chips have always been big, largely due to the long development time between generations. The H1 chip in the original AirPods Pro lasted three years before the AirPods Pro 2 launched with the H2 chip. Likewise, when the AirPods Pro 3 arrive, it will also be three years since the last upgrade.
New design for AirPods Pro 3
Mark Gurman also revealed that the AirPods Pro 3 will have a new design. However, details about this design are still quite limited at the moment.
There are not expected to be major changes, as the AirPods Pro design has been well received and has even inspired the AirPods 4 series. Minor changes to the stem size or in-ear fit may be included.
Upgraded active noise cancellation (ANC) feature
One of the biggest strengths of the AirPods Pro 2 is the improved active noise cancellation (ANC). According to some reports, Apple plans to further enhance this feature on the AirPods Pro 3, based on the power of the H3 chip. The new ANC feature is said to be "far superior", providing a better noise cancellation experience for users.
Unexpected hidden health features
Mark Gurman also suggested that some health features could appear on future AirPods models, including: heart rate monitoring, similar to the Apple Watch; Body temperature sensor; New sensors that support measuring various physiological indicators.
Among these, Gurman believes that the heart rate monitoring feature is likely to be ready to appear on the AirPods Pro 3. However, due to the strict testing and approval processes related to health features, its launch is still in doubt.
