According to the press release, users can now search for products, compare options and buy right in ChatGPT. Current categories include fashion, cosmetics, household appliances and electronics, with plans to expand in the near future.
OpenAI claims that search results are independently selected and do not require advertising. This feature is integrated into the GPT-4o model and is being rolled out to all ChatGPT users, including free, paid accounts and those who are not yet signed in.
In addition to shopping, ChatGPT is also integrated with Google search, allowing users to text to receive real-time replies. The new update also adds improvements such as better source citations, trend searches, and upcoming interplay history memories.
However, trusting ChatGPT as a shopping consulting tool is still risky, as this chatbot sometimes comes to information when it is uncertain to answer.
Although it is unclear how OpenAI makes a profit from shopping when it does not display paid ads, observers predict that the company can earn commissions from affiliate marketing.
