The conference, held at Microsoft's headquarters in Redmond, Washington, marks the first major step by Microsoft to address the issues that affected nearly 8.5 million Windows devices on July 19, 2024. The incident also disrupted operations in many industries, from airlines to banking and healthcare.
CrowdStrike is an incident that has raised many concerns that organizations are not well prepared to deploy contingency plans when a “link” such as an IT system fails, or a piece of software within it crashes.
The CrowdStrike incident also exposed the risks of relying on a single vendor to provide a one-stop service for security solutions, analysts say.
“The Windows security ecosystem must work together to innovate to create a safer and more trusted world,” said David Weston, senior vice president at Microsoft, at the conference.
Delta Air Lines said that after the above computer system failure, they are in the process of filing a complaint against the cybersecurity technology company CrowdStrike and Microsoft because this incident caused the airline to cancel a series of flights, causing a loss of at least 500 million USD.
