According to Reuters, the appearance of these ships is a deterrent to ensure the conflict does not expand, while adding significant strength to the region that already has a number of US military ships, aircraft and soldiers.
Donald R. Ford Airport plane
The US Donald R. Ford aircraft carrier and support ships arrived in the eastern Mediterranean early last week.
Ford, put into operation in 2017, is the newest aircraft carrier in the US and the world, with more than 5,000 crew members on board.
Donald R. Ford has a nuclear reactor carrying more than 75 military aircraft, including fighter jets such as the F-18 Super Hornet and E-2 Hawkeye.
The ship also carries a stockpile of powerful missiles such as the Sea Sparrow Evolved missile - a medium-range anti-aircraft missile used against drones and fighter jets.
In addition, the ship also has a Mk-15 Phalanx short-range weapons system used for cross- armored missile firing as well as complex radars that can help control airflow and guide the way.
Donald R. Ford's support ships include the Ticonderoga Normandy class guided cruiser cruiser, the Arleigh- burke Thomas Hudner class guided missile khuere, Ramage, Carney and Roosevelt. They provide air-to-air, land-to-land and anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
Dwight Eisenhower Airport Ship
The Pentagon has directed the Dwight Eisenhower aircraft carrier to move east of the Mediterranean. The ship took a week to a week and a half to reach the area.
Dwight Eisenhower, also known as Ike, is powered by nuclear power and was put into operation in 1977.
The airport also has 5,000 crew members and can carry up to 9 squads of aircraft of all kinds such as fighter jets, helicopters and those capable of performing intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations.
Like Donald R. Ford, the Ike aircraft carrier will be escorted by other ships such as Philippine Sea cruise missile cruise ships, Gravely and Mason guided missile destroy ships.
These ships focus on protection, although they can carry out attack operations.
