After the auction of the right to use telecommunications codes and numbers held on January 22, 2026 with a winning price of up to 1 billion VND per prefix, the Ministry of Science and Technology continues to implement the auction of another high-value digital resource, the national domain name ".vn" with two characters.
On February 27, the Ministry of Science and Technology announced that it will publicly auction this domain name group for the first time. This is considered a scarce digital resource with strategic value in Vietnam's digital ecosystem.
Auction activities in 2026 are implemented in two phases. Phase 1 takes place in March 2026 and phase 2 is expected to be held in June 2026. In the first phase, 50 two-character domain names will be put up for online auction in three days from March 18 to 20, 2026.
According to management agencies, the auction is carried out in accordance with legal regulations, ensuring publicity, transparency, equality and healthy competition. This mechanism creates opportunities for businesses, organizations, individuals and investors to access short, easy-to-remember digital identifiers with high brand recognition value.
The auction list gathers many domain names with diverse meanings. Groups associated with brands or abbreviations include: mb. vn, lg. vn, hc. vn, cj. vn, jd. vn. Groups by industry include: ot. vn, dd. vn, fa. vn, gc. vn, ex. vn. Some domain names according to social and digital trends such as: 2k. vn, ok. vn, hi. vn, f0. vn, ez. vn, em. vn also appear. Besides, there are domain names combining letters and numbers such as: p1. vn, j2. vn, t7. vn, g8. vn suitable for the technology field and with long-term investment potential.
The winning bidder will be granted the right to use the domain name according to legal regulations and is allowed to transfer the right to use it. This shows that the ".vn" domain name is not only an online identification tool but also a digital asset with commercial and investment value.
The auctions are organized online by bidding method, individual auction of each domain name on the organizing unit's system. The starting price is 10,000 VND per domain name, deposit of 1,000 VND, price step of 1,000 VND and application fee of 50,000 VND. Each session has a minimum duration of 20 minutes.
The deposit deadline is specified according to each auction day. Participants need to complete it before 5:00 PM on March 13 for the March 18 session; before 5:00 PM on March 16 for the March 19 session; before 5:00 PM on March 17 for the March 20 session. Putting the two-character domain name up for auction continues to affirm the direction of improving the efficiency of exploiting national Internet resources.
