Three anti-theft protection features Google announced earlier this year have begun rolling out to Android devices.
These tools include Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock, which are designed to help users quickly lock their devices in the event of theft, preventing thieves from accessing sensitive information.
As reported by Engadget, some users have seen these features appear on the Xiaomi 14T Pro phone, and some Pixel users have started receiving Remote Lock.
Theft Detection Lock is activated when there is an actual snatch attempt. It uses Google AI to detect if someone grabs your phone and tries to run away, ride a bike, or drive away. The phone screen will then automatically lock.
Offline Device Lock also has the ability to automatically lock the screen when the device is disconnected from the Internet. Meanwhile, Remote Lock allows users to lock their device without having to remember their Google account password. Instead, users only need their phone number and a simple security challenge via any device to remotely lock the device.
With the rollout of these new features, Google is working to improve the security of Android users, ensuring that their important data will not be exposed when their device is stolen.
