WhatsApp strengthens user account protection against cyber attacks

Quang Minh |

Meta deploys strict Account Setup mode on WhatsApp. This is a security tool to enhance account protection against network attacks.

This feature is designed as a quick button in the settings section, allowing users to simultaneously activate multiple layers of protection with just one operation.

When turned on, this mode will block images and attachments from unidentified senders, turn off preview links and automatically turn off calls from strange numbers. Tightening interactions may make the usage experience more limited, but in return is a higher level of security for the account.

According to Meta, this is not a feature for the majority of users, because conversations on WhatsApp are already protected by end-to-end encryption. Instead, this tool targets journalists, public figures or high-risk groups, who can become targets of dangerous cyberattacks.

Strict Account Setup will be deployed globally in the next few weeks and users can find it in the Privacy section of the application.

WhatsApp is the latest technology platform participating in the trend of providing advanced security tools for high-risk users. Previously, Apple introduced security locking from 2022, and the Android operating system also launched advanced protection last year, showing that technology companies are increasingly focusing on protecting specific user groups from cyber security threats.
