Reduce uric acid by eating popular potatoes

Uric acid is a byproduct of the breakdown of purines a substance found in organs, seafood, and some foods rich in protein.

When uric acid increases in the blood, it can crystallize in the joints, causing gout or kidney damage. Adjusting your diet is an important measure in controlling uric acid levels. In particular, potatoes - a popular vegetable - are considered a food that effectively supports the reduction of uric acid thanks to its special nutritional properties.

According to research, potatoes are a food rich in potassium but very low in purines. Every 100g of potato contains about 429 mg of potassium and contains almost no purines - the main factor that increases uric acid in the blood. Potassium helps the kidneys excrete uric acid more effectively through urine, thereby reducing uric acid levels in the serum.

Potatoes' ability to help reduce uric acid

Potatoes contain a significant amount of natural vitamin C, which helps reduce uric acid. People who supplement about 500 mg of vitamin C per day have a lower risk of gout thanks to their ability to reduce uric acid levels in the blood. An average potato can provide about 2030 mg of vitamin C.

In particular, potatoes also contain fiber and antioxidants such as polyphenols, which help fight inflammation and improve kidney function two important factors in eliminating uric acid. However, patients should eat boiled, steamed or baked potatoes, avoid frying to limit saturated fat which can increase inflammation.

Potatoes are a healthy food that effectively supports uric acid reduction if used properly in a scientific diet, combined with reducing animal fatigue and increasing green vegetables and fruits low in purines.
