Drinks that support increased liver function

Lemongrass tea can be a healthy choice because it contains many antioxidant compounds that support increased liver function.

Lemongrass contains many biologically active compounds such as citral, geraniol, flavonoids and polyphenols. These substances have antioxidant properties, helping to neutralize free radicals - factors that contribute to liver cell damage.

According to researchers, oxidative stress plays an important role in the formation of fatty liver and many chronic liver diseases.

Therefore, a diet rich in antioxidants can contribute to protecting liver cells from harmful agents.

Although most of the evidence for lemongrass still comes from preclinical studies, initial results show that this herb has the potential to help reduce inflammation and reduce oxidative damage.

Notably, some human studies show that lemongrass tea is tolerated quite well when used in regular amounts for a short time, without changing liver function indicators such as AST, ALT or bilirubin in healthy people.

To have a delicious lemongrass tea, you should choose 2-3 fresh lemongrass stalks, wash them, crush them and cut them into sections about 4-5 cm long.

Boil about 500-700 ml of water, add lemongrass and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Then turn off the heat, let the tea infuse for about 5 more minutes before filtering out the water to drink.

You can add a few slices of ginger or a slice of fresh lemon after the tea is less hot to enhance the flavor. However, do not add too much sugar or honey if you are controlling your weight or blood sugar.

Even though it is a natural herb, lemongrass tea should not be used excessively.

There are currently no international recommendations on the optimal dosage for lemongrass tea, but experts believe that 1-2 cups per day is a reasonable level for the majority of healthy adults.

The most effective measure to protect the liver is still to control weight, limit alcohol, maintain a diet rich in green vegetables, fruits, whole grains, exercise regularly and control blood sugar and blood fat well.

Avoid using lemongrass essential oil or concentrated extracted products to drink, because they have a much higher content of active ingredients than tea made from lemongrass stalks and can increase the risk of unwanted effects.
