Can Tho - The city aims to reduce the poverty rate to 0.63%, of which the poverty rate of ethnic minority households will be 1.58% by the end of 2025.

Can Tho City People's Committee has just issued a Plan to implement the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction in 2025. The goal by the end of the year is to reduce the poverty rate of the whole city to 0.63%, of which the poverty rate of ethnic minority households will be 1.58%.

According to the plan, the city will synchronously deploy many solutions, focusing on creating sustainable livelihoods and jobs for poor and near-poor households. Will support the construction and replication of 97 models, production, business, service, tourism and start-up projects; strive to have at least 90% of workers from poor households and 80% of workers in extremely disadvantaged areas trained and improve production capacity. 100% of cadres working on poverty reduction are trained in basic knowledge and skills to improve implementation efficiency at the grassroots level.

The city also aims to significantly improve basic social services for poor and near-poor households. By the end of 2025, strive for 90% of poor and near-poor households to have access to clean water for daily use; 60% have access to hygienic drinking water; 100% of poor and near-poor households are supported to participate in health insurance; 90% of poor and near-poor households have access to telecommunications and internet services.

The program also focuses on developing vocational education associated with the labor needs of the market; supporting the sending of workers from poor and near-poor households to work abroad for a limited period of time; strengthening health care services and improving nutrition for poor children.

Notably, communication work and raising public awareness of multidimensional poverty reduction are also one of the key tasks. The city will organize extensive propaganda activities to change the mindset of "waiting and relying on" and encourage the spirit of self-reliance and self-strengthening to escape poverty sustainably.
