Da Nang strives to care for Agent Orange victims

During 20 years of operation, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Da Nang City has mobilized more than 221 billion VND to help Agent Orange victims.

On January 18, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Da Nang City held a ceremony to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its founding.

Over the past 20 years of establishment, the Association has built a solid system. Of which, the City Association has 2 affiliated centers; 7 district and county Association organizations; 56 ward and commune Associations and 1 Cam Le District Education Department Association. In addition, the Association at all levels has built 6 volunteer clubs with 175 participants.

Thanks to the attention of leaders at all levels, the support of charitable organizations and philanthropists, the resources of the whole society have been mobilized to provide material and spiritual assistance, contributing to reducing difficulties in the lives of victims.

Associations at all levels in the city have mobilized resources of more than VND221 billion to help Agent Orange victims, build boarding facilities for children infected with Agent Orange, and build detoxification saunas to serve people exposed to Agent Orange/dioxin.

In addition, it provided support for home repairs, livelihood support, regular support, scholarships, and emergency assistance for nearly 103,000 beneficiaries with a budget of more than VND 117.4 billion. At the same time, it built and established a Center for Supporting Agent Orange Victims and Disadvantaged Children to provide regular boarding care for 90 disabled children with a budget of VND 60.4 billion.

At the ceremony, leaders of the Association at all levels and leaders of the City People's Committee presented certificates of merit to express gratitude to individuals and groups who have always accompanied and helped victims of Agent Orange to contribute to the city's social security work.

Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Do Hong Lam - Permanent Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin said that with the efforts over the past 20 years, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Da Nang City has been assessed by the Central Committee as one of the outstanding and typical provinces leading the country and is highly appreciated for its operational efficiency, contributing to better care for victims of Agent Orange.

“In the coming time, the Association at all levels will focus on mobilizing, caring for, helping and promoting propaganda and mobilization work with the Central Association and the whole country to fight for justice for Agent Orange victims, contributing to raising social awareness of the consequences of Agent Orange caused by the war,” Major General Do Hong Lam emphasized.
