According to the People's Committee of Da Nang City on November 10, Chief of the Da Nang City Party Committee Office Tran Thang Loi inspected the situation, visited and encouraged the people and worked with Vu Gia Commune on prevention and overcoming the consequences of floods.
Chief of the Da Nang City Party Committee Office Tran Thang Loi came to encourage and present gifts to 3 elderly, sick and disadvantaged households in Vu Gia commune that were severely affected by the recent floods. At the same time, 30 gifts were presented to people in difficult circumstances in the commune who suffered heavy losses due to flooding.
According to the report, during the heavy rain lasting from October 27-31, the amount of rain in the upstream of rivers was very large, along with the regulation of hydropower plants causing widespread flooding and lasting for many days, nearly 100% of households in Vu Gia commune were flooded.
Most of them were flooded from 1m or more deep, some places were flooded up to 3m deep, many inter-village and inter-commune roads were completely cut off. The flood killed 1 person, injured 10 people, and forced 287 households with 673 people to be urgently evacuated to a safe place.
The total value of damage in the recent floods in Vu Gia commune is estimated at about 80 billion VND. The damage caused by this flood is considered the most serious in many years, greatly affecting the lives, production and daily activities of all people in the commune.
At the meeting, Vu Gia commune recommended that all levels and sectors of the city pay attention to supporting means and rescue equipment such as canoes, motor boats, life buoys, walkie-talkies, etc. for grassroots shock forces.
At the same time, invest in repairing and solidifying the river embankment system, rural transportation, ensuring people's safety and serving rescue and relief work.
Speaking at the meeting, Chief of Office of the Da Nang City Party Committee Tran Thang Loi acknowledged and praised the efforts of the police force, military, militia, volunteer teams and medical centers, and village officials who have grasped the area, deployed civil defense plans and evacuated people to safe highlands, mobilized vehicles and youth volunteers to participate in timely relief, actively supported people, and reduced damage caused by floods.
According to the Chief Office of the Da Nang City Party Committee, Vu Gia commune is located in the low-lying area of the downstream of major river branches of the Vu Gia - Thu Bon river system, and at the same time, in the downstream location of a series of large lakes and hydroelectric plants such as A Vuong, Dak Mi, Song Con, Song Thanh, the locality needs to have a higher response plan because the flood situation is increasingly complicated, and the risk of overlapping floods is increasing.
