On the afternoon of May 12, in Phu Quoc special zone (An Giang), the Vietnam Coast Guard organized a conference to thoroughly grasp and disseminate the task of organizing a working delegation to survey and grasp the situation of the Southwest sea and islands in 2026.
Attending and directing the conference were Major General Tran Van Xuan, Deputy Political Commissar cum Head of the Political Department of the Vietnam Coast Guard. Also attending were Major General Nguyen Van Dung, Secretary of the Party Committee, Political Commissar of Coast Guard Region 4 Command; representatives of leaders and heads of delegations from Can Tho, Ca Mau and An Giang localities.
Major General Nguyen Van Dung, Political Commissar of Coast Guard Region 4 Command, said that the conference aims to deploy basic contents on organizing a working delegation to survey and grasp the situation of the Southwest coastal sea and islands in 2026; and at the same time disseminate regulations to ensure safety throughout the operation at sea.
The delegation will visit, work, grasp the situation and give gifts in island communes and special zones in the Southwest sea area. The working trip is of great significance in helping local leaders better understand the reality of law enforcement at sea, the difficulties and hardships of forces performing tasks; thereby contributing to serving the work of advising on marine and island economic development associated with the task of protecting sovereignty and combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
After the thorough understanding part, the conference continued to listen to a summary report on the sea voyage plan, safety assurance regulations and contents related to the working trip of Coast Guard Region 4 Command.

Speaking to direct at the conference, Major General Tran Van Xuan, Deputy Political Commissar cum Head of the Political Department of the Vietnam Coast Guard, emphasized that the working trip to survey and grasp the situation of coastal sea and island areas is a major policy of the Vietnam People's Army in general and the Vietnam Coast Guard in particular to strengthen coordination between the Coast Guard force and localities in protecting sea and island sovereignty, maintaining security and order and sustainable marine economic development.
Major General Tran Van Xuan said that in 2025, the Vietnam Coast Guard successfully organized 7 working trips to take delegates from localities to survey the coastal sea and islands. The activities were highly appreciated by the Ministry of National Defense and the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army for their significance and effectiveness, especially in the coordination of propaganda to prevent and combat IUU fishing.
In addition, the organization of a working trip to survey sea and island areas also aims to consolidate the all-people national defense posture, the people's security posture at sea; and at the same time support and encourage fishermen to feel secure in going offshore and sticking to the sea. "Each ship going out to sea is a sovereignty milestone, each fisherman is a soldier protecting sovereignty and sea and island security," Major General Tran Van Xuan emphasized.
Comrade also highly appreciated the close coordination between the Coast Guard Region 4 Command and the localities of Can Tho, An Giang and Ca Mau in the past time, especially the work of exchanging information on the political security situation, social order and safety at sea; mobilizing people to participate in denouncing violations of the law and effectively coordinating the implementation of the program "Coast Guard accompanies fishermen".
Major General Tran Van Xuan requested the members of the working delegation to carefully study the schedule, strictly comply with safety regulations when boarding and disembarking ships, boats, moving at sea and on islands; actively participate with functional forces in inspection and legal propaganda activities for fishermen and grasp the actual situation at sea.
