Strengthening environmental protection of natural heritage in Binh Dinh

Hoài Luân |

Binh Dinh has directed units and localities to develop environmental restoration projects for natural heritages that are polluted and degraded.

Binh Dinh currently has 5 recognized natural heritages, including: An Toan Nature Reserve (An Lao district), Ganh Rang scenic spot (Quy Nhon city), Ba Mountain Base Historical and Scenic Site (Phu Cat district), Ham Ho Scenic Site (Tay Son district), Ta Kon Citadel Historical and Scenic Site (Vinh Thanh district).

However, in recent times, environmental protection work for these natural heritages has not been implemented synchronously, and coordination between functional agencies and local authorities is still lacking.

In order to overcome the above situation, Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan requested that the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DONRE) preside over and coordinate with localities and relevant units to guide natural heritage management units to develop regulations and plans for management and environmental protection of natural heritage, and submit them to competent authorities for approval.

Develop environmental restoration projects for natural heritages that are polluted and degraded. Proactively propose the Provincial People's Committee to report to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to submit to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision on the application of emergency and temporary measures to limit the total amount of waste discharged into the natural heritage environment, in case there is a risk of causing serious impacts on the environment.

Coordinate with relevant agencies to organize the review and development of projects to establish and recognize other natural heritages according to regulations; guide, supervise and inspect the management and environmental protection of natural heritages of management units.

The Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee also assigned the Provincial Police to coordinate with relevant agencies to prevent and handle acts that affect the environment and biodiversity at natural heritage sites.

"The management unit shall proactively develop, update and submit to competent authorities for approval regulations and plans for management and protection of natural heritage environments according to regulations. Mobilize resources to implement management and protection of natural heritage environments. Organize periodic investigation and assessment of natural heritages and report to the Provincial People's Committee," Mr. Pham Anh Tuan directed.
