On April 2nd, Tra Tan Commune People's Committee, Da Nang City organized a conference to deploy the plan to build a drug-free commune by the end of 2026, expressing the determination to maintain peace for a mountainous area with many difficulties.
Tra Tan is a new highland commune established on the basis of merging the two old communes Tra Tan and Tra Giac, with an area of more than 183km2 with more than 6,000 people, mostly ethnic minorities. This is a large, dangerous area, with dispersed population; many places still lack electricity, lack domestic water, roads are difficult to travel, and phone signals are intermittent. In the old Tra Giac area alone, more than half of the population is poor households, and in some places, to reach the commune center, it takes almost a day to cross forests and mountains.

It is in that context that the goal of building a drug-free commune further shows the great efforts of the local government in bringing management and crime prevention policies to the most remote areas.
The plan is implemented according to Resolution No. 02-NQ/TU dated October 31, 2025 of the Standing Committee of the Da Nang City Party Committee on strengthening and improving the effectiveness of drug prevention and control in the city in the new situation.
According to Tra Tan Commune People's Committee, currently the locality has 1 person under management for illegal drug use; 1 addict is in the period of preparing dossiers for applying measures to send them to compulsory detoxification; 4 people are under management after drug detoxification. There are currently no cases of voluntary detoxification at home or in the community and no people are being treated for addiction with Methadone replacement drugs.
Tra Tan commune is currently identified as a key and complex area for type III drugs. From that reality, the locality sets a goal to eliminate drugs in the area by the end of 2026.

To achieve this goal, the commune will synchronously implement many solutions, including focusing on strictly managing addicts, people who use illegal drugs, and people after detoxification; strengthening propaganda and mobilizing people to participate in detecting and denouncing violations; not allowing the emergence of points of organizing and harboring illegal drug use; not allowing wanted drug subjects to hide in the area.
Tra Tan's goal is not only to reduce the number of drug-related cases, but also to build a safer living environment for people in mountainous areas - a place that is gradually developing and still has to overcome many barriers in terms of infrastructure, people's livelihoods and access to public services.
