On the morning of August 15, the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hai Chau Ward solemnly held a ceremony to pay tribute to the heroic clerics at Nghia Trong Phuoc Ninh (Lot A2, Nguyen Van Linh Street, Hai Chau Ward, Da Nang City).
The ceremony is held annually to express deep gratitude to the heroic clerics who sacrificed their lives in the early days of the French resistance war, reminding today's and future generations to remember the heroic examples who sacrificed, defended the country, and educated generations about the tradition of "remembering the source of water when drinking".
In front of the heroic clerics, the city delegation respectfully offered flowers and incense to commemorate the merits of their ancestors, expressing gratitude to the heroic clerics who sacrificed during the first years of Da Nang's resistance against the French.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Duy - Chairman of Hai Chau Ward People's Committee reviewed the history of Phuoc Ninh Clerical Hospital, which was established in 1876, marking the sacrifice of more than 1,500 martyrs in the heroic battles to protect Da Nang from 1858 - 1860. This place also preserves valuable sandstone steles and the tombs of two generals Nguyen Viet Thu and Nguyen Thuong Chat.
In 1988, Nghia Trong was recognized as a National Historical Site. From 2021, the relic will be renovated and expanded; in 2022, continue to plan the adjacent land to become a park, forming a spiritual tourism complex associated with the urban landscape. Hai Chau District also chose August 15 every year to organize a ceremony to pay tribute to the heroic martyrs.
In recent times, the relic site has also welcomed many groups to visit, offer flowers, and offer incense on holidays, Tet and major events. Notably, on August 5, the relic site welcomed a delegation from Uiwang City, Korea to visit the Uiwang - Hai Chau symbol.
This is also an important event marking a milestone of international exchange cooperation between Hai Chau ward and Uiwang city, Korea. The offering ceremony is a way to express our forever gratitude to the heroic clerics who sacrificed themselves in the first years of Da Nang's resistance against the French.
