Rainfall measured from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM on July 9 at many points exceeded 150mm, of which My Bang (Tuyen Quang) reached 178.8mm, Thac Ba (Lao Cai) reached 176.8mm, Binh Thanh (Thai Nguyen) reached 176mm and Bang Luan (Phu Tho) reached 160.6mm.
Northern region continues to have heavy rain until the end of July 10.
Forecast from the evening of July 9 to the end of July 10, the mountainous and midland areas of the Northern region and Quang Ninh will continue to have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, common rainfall of 30-80mm, locally over 170mm.
Notably, during thunderstorms, heavy rains of over 100mm can appear within 3 hours, increasing the risk of flooding and dangerous types of natural disasters.
During the same period, other localities of the North and Thanh Hoa will have showers and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 15-35mm, locally over 70mm, mainly concentrated in the late afternoon, night and early morning.
In the Central Highlands and Southern regions, in the late afternoon and evening of July 9, scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to appear, with common rainfall of 10-30mm, in some places over 50mm.
The meteorological agency warns that during thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind, affecting agricultural production, traffic and people's lives.
Forecast from the night of July 10, heavy rain in the mountainous and midland areas of the Northern region and Quang Ninh will tend to gradually decrease.
Prolonged heavy rain increases the risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides in hilly and steep areas, and land subsidence in areas with weak or saturated soil.
In addition, urban areas, residential areas and industrial parks in low-lying areas are also at risk of localized flooding, especially during heavy rains with high intensity.
Residents and tourists in areas at risk of flash floods and landslides need to regularly follow weather forecasts, proactively plan responses, and do not go through spillways, streams or areas with signs of landslides when heavy rain occurs. At the same time, localities need to be ready with plans to evacuate people from dangerous areas if rainfall continues to increase.
