According to the Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, through satellite image monitoring, lightning positioning data and weather radar, the convective cloud area is developing strongly, causing rain in the areas of Doai Phuong, Bat Bat, Ung Thien, My Duc, Phuc Son, Hong Son, Dan Hoa, Thuong Tin, Nam Phu and tending to continue to move and expand to the inner city of Hanoi.
It is forecasted that in the next 2-3 hours, thunderstorms will continue in the above localities and spread to many other wards and communes of Hanoi. During thunderstorms, people need to be wary of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.
Not only Hanoi, this afternoon and evening, the area from Thanh Hoa to Hue City also has scattered showers and thunderstorms, common rainfall from 10-20 mm, locally over 50 mm.
In the Central Highlands and Southern regions, it is forecast to have scattered showers and thunderstorms with rainfall of 15-30 mm, some places may have very heavy rain, rainfall exceeding 100 mm.
The meteorological agency warns that during thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind, causing the risk of fallen trees, damage to houses, affecting agricultural production, transportation and infrastructure.
In addition, localized heavy rain may cause flooding in low-lying areas, while increasing the risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams and landslides in hilly areas.
The level of natural disaster risk due to tornadoes, lightning and hail is determined at level 1. People are advised to regularly monitor weather forecasts and warnings to proactively take measures to prevent and limit damage caused by thunderstorms.
