Wowsung, a famous food blogger with more than 200,000 followers on Youtube, recently posted a video sharing the differences between Lunar New Year in Vietnam and Korea.
Although not celebrating Tet in Vietnam, the male blogger's family's meal still has many traditional Vietnamese dishes such as boiled vegetables, stir-fried octopus with pineapple, chicken with mushrooms and potatoes, pork belly, lean ham, banh chung... cooked by his mother-in-law.
Wowsung said both Korea and Vietnam celebrate Lunar New Year, but due to cultural differences, there are still some differences.
In Vietnam, Tet is prepared and celebrated until the end of the "day of the month". Houses and streets are often cleaned, renovated, and beautifully decorated with ornamental plants such as apricot, peach, kumquat trees or flowers such as yellow chrysanthemums, peonies, lilies... This makes the atmosphere more bustling and exciting.
In Korea, Tet is much simpler. On the first day, families perform rituals to worship their ancestors, give each other lucky money, and gather to eat a meal. That is considered the end of Lunar New Year.
Wowsung said that this year his small family celebrated Tet in Korea so he missed the Tet atmosphere in Vietnam.
"Because my first daughter is still too young, I can't come back this year. Later, when she's stronger and can eat like adults, I will take her back to Vietnam for a food tour," the male blogger humorously shared.
Park Woo Sung, also known as Wowsung, is a Korean food blogger who has lived in Vietnam for more than 10 years. Wowsung's YouTube channel has 211,000 followers with content revolving around culinary exploration as well as comparing traditional cultural features between Korea and Vietnam.
He is loved by many on social media platforms thanks to his handsome appearance, humorous personality and ability to speak Vietnamese as well as a native speaker. In 2023, Wowsung opened a restaurant specializing in traditional Vietnamese dishes in Seoul and attracted many supportive diners.
In early 2024, Wowsung posted an intimate photo with a beautiful girl with the lyrics "I have a wife". In November 2024, the male blogger and his wife officially welcomed their first daughter.
