The first Muong Lay Ward Sports Festival in 2025 attracted the participation of many people and tourists. This is an activity within the framework of tourism activities during the flood season on the Da River.
According to the Organizing Committee, the Congress gathered nearly 1,000 athletes, including 8 delegations of athletes from clusters, blocks, agencies, units, schools and armed forces in the area.



The athlete delegations competed in 15 sports with 42 rich and diverse events such as: Swallow-tail boat racing, Kayak boat racing, Con throwing, cross shooting, tug of war...
The festival's focus is on competitions on Song Da lake, which is considered "Ha Long on the highest".
Accordingly, the traditional En tail boat racing, a unique cultural feature of the White Thai people, attracted 10 racing teams with 200 athletes competing in 3 events.

In addition, modern Kayaking also brings a youthful color to 17 teams (34 athletes). This is a sport that requires endurance, water wave handling techniques and the ability to control the speed of the rowers, attracting the attention of many tourists.
Traditional highland sports
The festive atmosphere is not only bustling on the water surface. At Phi Hai village stadium, Muong Lay ward, many sports and folk games with a strong highland identity took place such as: shooting on the net, throwing on the stakes, turning, pounding the cake, pushing the stick...
These activities have recreated the beauty of traditional culture, strengthening the solidarity of ethnic minorities.


Participating in the tug of war competition, Mr. Ho A Dia ( Phi Hai version) said: "To participate with the people, I feel very happy. This is truly a festival of solidarity for our whole ward.
According to Mr. Nguyen Dat Long - Chairman of Muong Lay Ward People's Committee: " Muong Lay is the cradle of the Thai ethnic group, the White Thai ethnic group (accounting for 44.5% of the population) and the H'Mong ethnic group, the H'Mong Trang ethnic group (accounting for 41.9%), carrying many characteristics with unique and unique traditional cultural values".

According to Mr. Long, the ward has many advantages and potential to exploit tourism development.
Son La hydroelectric reservoir is surrounded by hilly terrain known as Ha Long on the high ground, which is a favorable condition for exploiting and developing river tourism, trekking, camping, paragliding, exploring caves and primeval forests, Mr. Long emphasized.


According to the Chairman of Muong Lay Ward People's Committee, organizing tourism activities during the flood season aims to maximize the potential and advantages of tourism, services and trade of the ward.
We aim to focus on comprehensive development in terms of scope, scale, and nature to create a boost to make tourism a major economic sector, creating momentum for growth and shifting the economic structure on the basis of effectively exploiting the potential and advantages..., said Mr. Nguyen Dat Long.

Muong Lay ward was established on the basis of merging Song Da ward, Na Lay ward, Lay Nua commune and Sa Tong commune (old). After the arrangement, the ward has a natural area of over 222 km2; the population is over 18,200 people.
