Air travel boom for Tet 2025, number of air passengers reaches peak

During the Lunar New Year 2025, the total number of air passengers increased to a record high, reaching 2.5 million, with peak days having more than 3,000 flights.

According to the report of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, during the Lunar New Year holiday period in 2025 (from January 24 to February 2, 2025, from December 25, Giap Thin year to the end of the 5th day of Tet At Ty), the total passenger transport output of the whole market will reach 2.5 million passengers (an increase of 17.8%).

Of which, international passenger transport reached 1.35 million passengers (up 23%); domestic passenger transport reached 1.14 million passengers (up 12% over the same period in 2024).

Vietnamese airlines transported more than 1.67 million passengers, up 12.8% over the same period in 2024. Of which, international transport reached more than 536,000 passengers, up 14% over the same period in 2024; domestic transport reached more than 1.1 million passengers, up 12% over the same period in 2024.

The number of passengers passing through airports nationwide also increased compared to the same period last year, with approximately 3.6 million passengers (an increase of 16% compared to the same period in 2024).

At key airports, passenger volume also increased compared to the same period in 2024, such as Tan Son Nhat International Airport reaching approximately 1.38 million passengers (up 7.6%).

Noi Bai International Airport reached approximately 900,000 passengers (up 12%), Da Nang International Airport reached more than 381,000 passengers (up 26%).

Phu Quoc International Airport recorded a record number of arrivals during the 2025 Lunar New Year with 38 - 40 flights/day, notably 70% of the total number of arrivals were from international routes.

In particular, during the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, Tan Son Nhat International Airport served from 824 to 970 takeoffs and landings per day, with an average of 138,000 passengers per day.

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, during the Lunar New Year, tourist accommodation establishments proactively coordinated with airlines to develop package promotion programs. Airlines have increased flights and increased night flights to serve the travel needs of tourists and residents.

Previously, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam closely monitored the booking situation, basic economy class airfares, and booking data on domestic routes to assess passenger booking demand on flights during the 2025 Lunar New Year.

The total number of aircraft added by Vietnamese airlines is 15, bringing the total number of aircraft in operation to 212, increasing the slot coordination parameters at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat International Airports to 46 or 48 flights/hour.

During the Lunar New Year, the aviation industry successfully operated 25,328 flights, with the total number of flights reaching a record 3,005 on January 25, 2025 (ie 26th of Tet) - the day with the highest flight operation output during Tet.
