Lao Cai - Lung Po Flagpole, a symbol of the Red River flowing into Vietnamese land, is being proposed to invest tens of billions of VND to renovate and upgrade.

At the beginning of July, present at Lung Po Flagpole (A Mu Sung commune), reporters noted that the access road to the area has been invested quite conveniently, creating conditions for people and tourists to visit.

From the top of the flagpole, visitors can take a panoramic view of the border mountains and forests, where Lung Po stream converges with the Red River in the border marker area No. 92 - the first point where the Red River flows into Vietnam.

Lung Po has long been considered a sacred symbol of border sovereignty. This is not only the origin of the Red River's journey on Vietnamese territory but also associated with the years of fighting and sacrifice of officers and soldiers of the A Mu Sung Border Guard to protect the Fatherland's borders.

Inaugurated in 2017, Lung Po Flagpole is built on an area of more than 2,100 m2. The flagpole is 31.43 m high, symbolizing the Fansipan peak 3,143 m high; the 25 m2 wide flag symbolizes 25 brotherly ethnic groups living in Lao Cai.

Since being put into use, the project has become a familiar destination for many delegations, students, youth union members and tourists when coming to the A Mu Sung border area.

Recently, Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Anh chaired a meeting to consider the plan to renovate and upgrade infrastructure and landscape of Lung Po Flagpole area.

According to the consulting unit, the first option has a total investment of about 29.5 billion VND, including expanding the ground area of about 2,000 m2 and building 6 items such as the Ho Chi Minh memorial house, a hall combined with a traditional room, renovating the flagpole, parking lot, public toilet, the road to milestone 92 and renovating the border marker.

Meanwhile, the second option has a total investment of nearly 20 billion VND, taking advantage of the existing site to implement similar items but not renovating the road to milestone 92.

Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee emphasized that this is a project of special political, historical and national sovereignty significance, so the investment must have a long-term vision, ensuring harmony between modern architecture and local identity.

Leaders of the Provincial People's Committee also requested to study and supplement items to serve tourists such as waiting houses, parking lots, souvenir sales areas, and spaces to introduce the history and significance of Lung Po Flagpole.

In the long term, Lao Cai province aims to attract investors to develop accommodation facilities and tourism services in the surrounding area, gradually forming a unique cultural and tourist space associated with Lung Po Flagpole, making this place a highlight on the province's border tourist route.
