Can Tho - Ky Yen Thuong Dien Dinh Binh Thuy Festival officially opens, attracting many local people and pilgrims from all directions to worship.

Preserving the "old habit

Recorded on the first day of the festival, the ancient space of Binh Thuy Pagoda became more brilliant and bustling than ever. This year, the festival continues to maintain traditional rituals, which have been preserved intact through many generations.

This is a meaningful occasion to express deep gratitude to the predecessors who contributed to reclaiming land and opening territory, wishing for favorable weather and national peace and prosperity.

Notably, the festival part took place bustlingly with a series of rich activities such as: calligraphy art performances, book exhibitions, sweet sticky rice contests, classical opera performances, folk games and a culinary space imbued with Southern flavor.

Ms. Duong Ngoc Tran, a member participating in festival organization - informed that the ancient beauty has been passed down through generations, so Can Tho people always preserve, conserve and develop it to help young generations and tourists be proud and understand more about local cultural values.

In order to create conditions for tourists to visit and worship, the volunteer service group including union members and youth in Can Tho City has been active in supporting and guiding tourists and ensuring the aesthetics of the relic area.

Student Dao Thanh Nhan (Can Tho University) said: "As a child of Binh Thuy land, I am very proud to participate and contribute to preserving the traditional values of this Ky Yen Thuong Dien festival. Through helping with the organization work, as well as participating in festival activities, I can learn more. From there, I can spread the good traditional and cultural values of the locality to friends not only in the country but also to international tourists".

Hundred-year beauty

Hòa cùng dòng người đến dâng hương, bà Nguyễn Thị Nga (phường Bình Thủy) - bày tỏ, đối với mỗi người dân sinh sống tại Bình Thủy, lễ hội Kỳ yên không chỉ là nét đẹp tâm linh, tín ngưỡng sâu sắc mà còn nhắc nhở thế hệ con cháu luôn nhớ về cội nguồn cha ông.

The ancient communal house preserves the traditional values left over from ancient times. Traditional festivals like this are a great bridge to connect the community, an opportunity for us to understand more deeply about the historical and cultural pages associated with the relic site bearing the imprint of time" - Mr. Minh added.

This year's Ky Yen Thuong Dien Festival takes place in 4 days, from May 28 to May 31, 2026 (from April 12 to 15 of the lunar calendar).

Binh Thuy communal house (Long Tuyen Ancient Temple) is a valuable work of traditional architectural art of Vietnamese people in the pioneering period of the Mekong Delta.

The communal house was built in 1844 and was approved by King Tu Duc to appoint a deity to the village as Bon Canh Thanh Hoang on November 29, Nham Ty year (1852). After many renovations and repairs, in the early 20th century, people rebuilt the communal house as it is today right at the Binh Thuy riverbank with bricks and tiles and completed it in 1910.

In 1989, the communal house was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a national-level architectural and artistic relic.

Every year, at Binh Thuy Pagoda, in addition to the worshiping ceremonies on the full moon day of each month and Lunar New Year, there are also 02 major festivals held solemnly: Ky Yen Thuong Dien Festival and Ky Yen Ha Dien Festival.
