Vietnamese passport ranks up on the Henley Passport Index 2026 ranking updated in March 2026.
Currently, Vietnamese citizens can go to 48 destinations without applying for a visa in advance or being issued a visa conveniently upon entry.
Among them, 23 countries and territories are completely visa-free for Vietnamese citizens, including: Singapore, Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Brunei, Myanmar, Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia, Panama, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Barbados, Belarus, Chile, Cook Islands, Dominica, Micronesia, Mongolia, Rwanda, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; and Suriname.
In addition, 22 destinations allow visa issuance at border gates such as Burundi, Cape Verde Islands, Comoro Islands, Djibouti, Guinea Bissau, Jordan, Madagascar, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nepal, Niue, Palau Islands, Samoa, Sierra Leone, St. Lucia, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Timor Leste and Tuvalu.
In addition, 3 countries require electronic entry permits (ETA) before arriving include Kenya, Seychelles and Sri Lanka.
In Southeast Asia, Vietnamese citizens are visa-free when traveling to Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia, Brunei, Myanmar and Laos, with a common length of stay from 14 to 30 days depending on the country.
Henley Passport Index is a global passport ranking that is updated periodically, based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and official information sources on visa policy. This index assesses passport strength based on the number of destinations that holders can conveniently enter.
In Southeast Asia, Vietnamese passports are still ranked after Singapore, Malaysia or Brunei, but the ranking is gradually improving in recent years thanks to bilateral visa-free agreements and tourism openness policies.
Vietnam is expanding its e-visa policy and visa exemption for citizens of many countries to promote international tourism and strengthen economic exchange.
According to the 2026 ranking, Singapore continues to lead the world as its citizens can reach more than 190 destinations without applying for a visa in advance. Japan, South Korea and many European countries are also in the group of most powerful passports globally.
