Western tourists rate Vietnam as safer than many other countries

Western tourists believe that Vietnam is a safe destination because the police regularly patrol to ensure security and order; and people care for and protect each other.

Recently, the story of MC Thanh Thanh Huyen losing her suitcase during her trip to Europe has sparked a discussion about the difference in safe travel experiences in Vietnam. Many foreigners have expressed that they feel safer in Vietnam than in many other countries in the world.

Becky, a British expat who has lived in Vietnam since 2018, said: "I feel really safe here. I've left my phone in a cafe or my bag unattended many times and always found it in the right place."

She added that although she had had her apartment broken into before, she understood that this could happen in any country.

When asked about traveling by public transport in Vietnam, Becky said she is always vigilant to protect her luggage and has never lost anything.

Comparing to the situation in her home country of England, she shared: "I have heard about incidents like MC Thanh Thanh Huyen's happening a lot in England, but fortunately I have not encountered it. However, recently in England, especially London, the situation of phone robberies has gotten out of control. People ride electric bikes around the city and steal phones from unsuspecting people. The last time I was in London, I was really alert and scared."

Becky appreciates the police presence in Vietnam and believes that this helps prevent crime.

She also emphasized the role of the community in creating a safe environment: "In Vietnam, not only is there a strong police presence, but neighbors really look out for each other. That sense of community makes me feel very safe."

On the social network TikTok, Laura, a German, shared her feelings about Vietnam: "In Vietnam, I can walk in a beautiful park without trash, without fear or danger."

Some tourists claim that theft and pickpocketing exist in crowded places such as festivals, outdoor concerts, public events, or train stations, buses, etc. However, this risk exists in many places around the world, even in the most developed countries. Besides, tourists traveling by train, bus, or plane in Vietnam can rest assured about their luggage.

Previously, the American travel magazine Travel Off Path ranked Vietnam as the safest destination in Asia for the 2024 tourist season. Travel Off Path commented that Vietnam is much safer and more stable than the US and most European countries - where violence rates tend to increase.

The only downside to note is that there are still some food safety risks. However, visitors can minimize these risks by following the recommendations of local authorities and eating at reputable restaurants.

According to the Global Law and Order Index published by Gallup at the end of 2023, Vietnam is the most peaceful country in Asia and ranked 7th in the world.

With a safe, friendly environment and an attractive culture, Vietnam is increasingly becoming a favorite destination for international tourists. Although there are still some challenges, positive reviews from tourists and prestigious international organizations show that Vietnam is affirming its position as a leading safe tourist destination in the world.
