On November 4, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa province issued a document requesting businesses and tourism establishments in the area to urgently deploy measures to prevent storm Kalmaegi, which is expected to directly affect the Central region in the next few days.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 4:00 p.m. on November 2, the center of storm Kalmaegi was at about 11.2 degrees North latitude - 132.5 degrees East longitude, about 1,000km east of Luzon Island (Philippines).
The strongest wind near the storm center is level 9, gusting to level 11. It is forecasted that by November 5, the storm will enter the central East Sea area, strengthen to level 13, gust above level 16-17 and is likely to head towards the Central mainland.
In the face of the complicated developments of the storm, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism recommends that businesses regularly monitor and update weather information, proactively deploy measures to respond to heavy rain, strong winds, big waves and rising water due to the storm.
At the same time, inspect and reinforce facilities and equipment to ensure safety.
Develop and implement storm and flood prevention plans in accordance with the specific characteristics of activities (tourism areas, accommodation facilities, travel...).
The plan needs to clearly stipulate the assignment of tasks, fully prepare materials, means, necessities, reserve information systems and plans to relocate tourists to safe areas when required by competent authorities.
Timely notify tourists about weather developments, recommend limiting travel to dangerous areas, proactively coordinate with local authorities in relocating and evacuating tourists when necessary.
Coastal and island accommodation establishments must review and count the number of visitors, prepare adequate means, rescue items, and essential goods, ensuring absolute safety for tourists and workers.
The Department also requires units to organize 24/7 duty before, during and after the storm, assign focal staff to regularly report on the situation of guests staying, response developments and arising incidents (if any) for the Department to synthesize and direct promptly.
