This will be the third crowded Thanksgiving since AAA began tracking the number of US tourists in 2000. The first time the number of visitors peaked was in 2005 and the second highest was in 2019.
Also according to CNN, 4.5 million Americans will fly during the holiday, which is about five days from November 23 to January 27.
"The parking spots at the airport are very fast, so book in advance and arrive early," said AAA Paula Twidale. If possible, avoid booking luggage to be more flexible if flights are delayed."
According to Scott Keyes, founder of Scott's Cheap Flights, while everything is getting more expensive these days, airfares are actually stagnant. Keyes said airfares have "hit rock bottom" for about two years from around March 2020 to March 2022.
This year, it is expected that nearly 49 million people will travel by car to the tourist areas. Expressways are expected to be crowded, especially in large urban areas.
The transportation information company INRIX suggests traveling early in the morning or before 11 am on Thanksgiving Day to avoid the busiest time frames when entering the weekend. Visitors should also avoid holidays on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, between 4pm and 8pm.
Travel by other means of transport is also approaching pre-pandemic levels. More than 1.4 million tourists are expected to travel by bus, train or train during this year's Thanksgiving holiday reaching 96% of the number of visitors in 2019.
