On August 5, Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee organized an online conference to evaluate the progress of drafting the Resolution of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee on the strategy for developing Sa Pa National Tourist Area in the period 2026-2030, with a vision to 2050.
Presiding over the conference, Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Anh emphasized the requirement to build Sa Pa into a green - clean - unique tourist area, competitive and of international stature.

According to the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, after being recognized as a National Tourist Area in 2017, Sa Pa has gradually affirmed its position as a tourist center of the province and the Northern Midlands and Mountains region.
However, technical infrastructure, transportation, environment, waste treatment, wastewater, human resource quality and high-end tourism products have not yet met development requirements in the new stage.
On that basis, the province develops a thematic resolution to create a long-term development orientation, making Sa Pa a special tourist city, an international resort center according to the "green - sustainable - identity - smart" model, taking people and tourists as the center.

According to the draft, by 2030, Sa Pa strives to welcome about 12 million visitors, including more than 1.8 million international visitors; tourism revenue reaches 25,000 billion VND; there are over 20,000 accommodation rooms; 100% of key tourist areas and attractions apply cashless payments; the rate of garbage collection in the core area reaches 100% and over 85% of urban wastewater is treated centrally.
Vision to 2050, Sa Pa aims to become an international tourist center, welcoming over 25 million visitors, tourism revenue exceeding 70,000 billion VND; strongly develop ecotourism, resort, cultural, health care, experience and event organization types, and at the same time become a green, clean, smart tourist city with competitiveness in Asia.

At the conference, representatives of departments, branches and localities contributed opinions on urban planning, transportation, architecture, relic conservation, cultural space and sustainable tourism development solutions.
Concluding the conference, Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Anh requested units to continue to complete the draft resolution with a long-term vision, closely following the plans approved by the Central Government, creating a basis for attracting investment and promoting the potential efficiency of Sa Pa National Tourist Area.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh noted that development must be synchronized between urban infrastructure, transportation, architecture and preservation of the system of relics, landscapes and cultural identity.
Ensuring harmony between economic development and resource preservation, towards building Sa Pa into a green - clean - unique tourist area of international stature.
