Hoi An City People's Committee said that the delegation and art troupe of Hoi An City participated in the Andong International Mask Dance Festival (from September 27 to October 6, 2024) in Korea at the invitation of the Mayor of Andong City, Gyeongsangbuk Province.
Andong is considered the cradle of culture, humanity and the spiritual capital of Korea. Andong is famous for its UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hahoe Village and Traditional Mask Dance - Important Intangible Cultural Heritage of Korea.
The Andong International Mask Dance Festival is one of the world's most famous festivals, aiming to introduce and honor the traditional cultural beauty of the land of Kim Chi and is a meeting place for art teams from many cultures around the world.
In 2024, this festival attracts the participation of 34 art teams from 25 countries and territories around the world such as: Japan, Peru, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Dominica, Latvia, Russia, Malaysia, Thailand, Poland, Taiwan (China), Republic of Cyprus, New Zealand, Turkey, Mongolia...
After participating for the first time and leaving many impressions in 2017, the Hoi An city art team returned to the festival and brought special impressions about the land of gentle people on the Hoai River with cultural and historical values, along with Vietnamese folk art, attracting a large audience from Korea and other countries around the world to watch.
With art performances, folk dances, traditional musical instruments, folk songs... bearing Vietnamese influences and spreading the beauty of the landscape, people and culture of Hoi An, Quang Nam, Vietnam to the community of other countries.
In particular, the art performance “Hat Boi” with the theme “The Five Elements of the East” was elaborately staged, combining traditional and contemporary art, based on the profound philosophy of Eastern culture, through the vivid performance of artists from the Hoi An City Art Team, will introduce to the audience the art form considered to be scholarly in the culture of Hoi An, Quang Nam, Vietnam.
Participating in the Andong International Mask Dance Festival opens up opportunities for Hoi An artists to exchange and learn performance experiences from art troupes around the world. At the same time, this is an opportunity to introduce Hoi An as an attractive cultural and tourist destination, rich in identity and creativity, a land that has always had international exchange and acculturation throughout the development of history.
