An Giang - The project aims to provide systematic foreign language training for the community, gradually making Phu Quoc a friendly, professional, and international-class destination.

On July 6, Phu Quoc Special Zone People's Committee (An Giang) organized a meeting to exchange information with school units, foreign language centers and businesses in the area on the Project to strengthen foreign language teaching and learning for students, and at the same time popularize foreign languages for the residential community in the period 2026-2030, with orientations to 2045.

The program aims to unify solutions to improve the quality of foreign language teaching and learning, develop human resources to meet the requirements of serving the APEC 2027 Conference and build Phu Quoc into an international-standard tourism and service center.

At the conference, delegates were introduced to the Project "Strengthening foreign language teaching and learning for students and universalizing foreign languages for the residential community in the period 2026–2030, orientation to 2045 in Phu Quoc special zone", and launched the Phu Quoc English Day – First Edition event with the theme "Phu Quoc – Hello World".

According to the Organizing Committee, the project was built in the context of Phu Quoc being chosen as the venue for APEC 2027. However, the English communication skills of many local workers such as drivers, small traders, hotel staff, restaurants... are still limited. The project aims to build a methodical foreign language training roadmap for the community, contributing to serving APEC 2027 successfully and gradually making Phu Quoc a friendly, professional, and international-class destination.

The project sets a goal to gradually eliminate language barriers at points of contact between people and tourists by 2030. The training subjects include 5 groups: drivers, technology motorbike taxi drivers, hotel and restaurant staff; small traders; civil servants, public employees who regularly serve people and tourists, students. Classes are designed according to each industry and level with appropriate textbooks, helping students immediately apply to work.

According to the roadmap, in 2026, the project will pilot for two priority groups, small traders and drivers, and at the same time organize Phu Quoc English Day – First Edition. In 2027, the program will expand to all 5 target groups, organizing classes at 10 locations in the area, striving for all contact points in the tourism sector to have basic English communication personnel. In the period 2028–2030, the project will continue to expand the scale and diversify training forms such as direct learning, online learning, learning through applications and practice at business and tourism service establishments.

At the conference, delegates contributed many opinions and proposals to improve the project, improve the efficiency of organizing classes and ensure long-term maintenance. On this occasion, the Organizing Committee also issued survey forms on foreign language learning needs, and at the same time mobilized units, businesses and people to respond and register to participate in the Phu Quoc – Hello World program.

Phu Quoc English Day – First Edition event with the theme "Phu Quoc – Hello World", is scheduled to take place on August 1, 2026 at Nam Anh Sports Area, organized by Phu Quoc Special Zone People's Committee, with a scale of about 500-800 participants.
