In the jubilant atmosphere of the first day of the Traditional Festival of Khuc Thua Du Temple in 2026, on the morning of August 31, in the main yard of Khuc Thua Du Temple, 13 teams from 13 villages in Khuc Thua Du commune, Hai Phong city excitedly participated in the Chung cake wrapping contest.
This is one of the unique activities of the festival part, contributing to creating a joyful atmosphere, while preserving the traditional cultural beauty of the locality.
Immediately after the opening ceremony, the teams quickly entered the banh chung wrapping competition. Each team consists of 3 members, both male and female, who coordinate to complete 20 banh chung in a maximum of 30 minutes.
Without using molds, the teams carried out the entire cake wrapping stage by hand, from cutting, joining leaves, measuring rice, placing filling to tying bamboo strings. In a lively competitive atmosphere, each stage was carried out by the teams urgently, skillfully and accurately.
The square banh chung cakes, full of 8 corners, tied with traditional bamboo strings are gradually completed, showing the dexterity, sophistication and experience of local people.
According to regulations, entries are evaluated based on many criteria. In which, the form and quality of each content are up to 40 points; cake wrapping time is 10 points; costumes and compliance with regulations are 10 points.
After boiling, the cake must be cooked evenly, sticky, fragrant, beautiful in shape, the filling is in the middle and not mushy.
The contest is held on two days, August 31st and September 1st, 2026 (ie, July 19th and 20th of the lunar calendar). The wrapping and cooking part starts from 7:30 AM on August 31st. Grading, product display and awarding take place from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM on September 1st at the main yard (festival yard) of Khuc Thua Du temple.
