Built in 1908, Son La prison is located on the top of Khau Ca hill, in group 9 (To Hieu ward, Son La city, Son La province). After three expansions, Son La Prison has a total area of 2,184m2, including 3 large items: Son La Prison, Son La Prison Martyrs' Cemetery and Heo Multi-village Tree.
In 1962, Son La Prison was ranked as a National Monument. However, during the resistance war against the US, after being bombed twice, many items of the relic were severely damaged.
