According to the draft Project to merge Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang provinces, after the merger, the administrative center will be located in Tuyen Quang. The new province has a natural area of about 13,795.6 km2, with a population of more than 1.7 million people.
Before the merger, the two localities have many cultural and social similarities. In particular, tourism potential will be a driving force for economic development.
In Ha Giang, in 2024, this locality welcomed 3.2 million visitors, tourism revenue reached 8,150 billion VND. The majestic natural landscape and cultural uniqueness are the highlights that help Ha Giang tourism develop, attracting many international tourists.

Ha Giang is focusing on main types including: Cultural tourism, eco-tourism, resorts, sports - adventure tourism, commercial tourism, border tourism. The products are exploited all year round, completely overcoming the seasonality.
In 2023, the World Tourism Awards Organizing Committee honored Ha Giang as "Asia's Leading Emerging Tourist Destination in 2023". By 2024, this locality will continue to be nominated in the category of "Asia's Leading Regional Cultural Destination".
Dong Van stone plateau, where the cat ear mountains belong, possesses majestic and pristine scenery. Ma Pi Leng, one of the "four great mountain passes" of Vietnam, stands out with its rugged turns and panoramic view of the green Nho Que river.
Dong Van ancient town with its unique architecture or the year of the thousand-year-old buckwheat flower season is also a tourist highlight for the land at the head of the Fatherland.

In Tuyen Quang, in 2024, it will welcome 2.8 million visitors, with tourism revenue reaching VND 3,700 billion. This locality currently has more than 650 historical, revolutionary, cultural and scenic relics with 182 relics nationally ranked. Xu Tuyen is considered a " revolutionary museum" of the country.
This traditional land is preserving 10 national intangible cultural heritages. Most of them are associated with spiritual festivals with a strong cultural character.
In Tuyen Quang, the Mid-Autumn Festival here is considered the largest in the country with many Guinness records. Dozens of giant light models parade on the streets, attracting tens of thousands of visitors.
In addition, the first 3 months of the year are also the time when special festival activities in Tuyen Quang welcome visitors from all over the world along with large and small temples and pagodas hundreds of years old.

After the merger, the combination of tourism types of Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang is expected to form a continuous development axis from the "revolutionary zone" to Thanh Thuy international border gate.
Tuyen Quang has completed and put into operation the expressway connecting to Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway by the end of 2023. Meanwhile, the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway is expected to open to traffic at the end of 2025.
This is considered an advantage to promote tourism potential, creating a premise for the new Tuyen Quang province to develop the economy and society.
