The ranking is published by Time Out magazine (UK), built based on a survey of more than 24,000 residents in 150 cities around the world, in 42 languages. Participants were asked about many factors that make up the quality of urban life such as cuisine, culture, nightlife, living expenses, level of happiness, community and common atmosphere.
This data is then combined with assessments from Time Out's network of more than 100 urban experts to objectively reflect the cities that provide the best living and travel experiences today.
Survey results show that Tokyo scores strongly with young people, especially the Z generation. Up to 91% of people under 30 years old participating in the survey said they feel happy living in this city, while 82% assessed that Tokyo people have a positive and friendly spirit.

In addition, Tokyo continues to affirm its position as the world's leading destination with a rich and high-quality culinary system, owning many Michelin-starred restaurants worldwide. Jimbocho neighborhood of Tokyo was also voted "the best neighborhood in the world" by Time Out. In addition, the world's first permanent outdoor Pokémon theme park just opened also contributes to increasing tourism attraction.
In this year's ranking, Hanoi ranks 25th and Ho Chi Minh City ranks 38th, surpassing many famous destinations in the world thanks to urban vitality, culinary culture and dynamic local communities.
Melbourne (Australia) tops the list, followed by Shanghai. Bangkok - one of the bustling tourist centers of Southeast Asia ranks 8th, while Seoul holds 9th, right above Tokyo.
