Many classic movies have portrayed the beauty of Vietnamese women as kind and brave.
During the period 1959 - 1975, in famous revolutionary films of Vietnam, many female characters gathered the typical beauty of Vietnamese women through many periods.
Those characters were personified, became icons on the screen and were loved by many generations of audiences such as Tu Hau in "Chi Tu Hau", Dieu in "17th Parallel Days and Nights", Sau Linh in "Monsoon Season", Ba Do's wife in the movie "Wild Field", Ms. Su in "Hon Dat"...
They are all women with difficult fates, suffering much pain, but above all they are strong, resilient, iron-willed and loyal love.
The beauty of the female leads such as People's Artist Tra Giang, People's Artist Nhu Quynh, artists Thuy An, Le Van... with long, silky black hair, fragile appearance but hidden strength and courage have become monuments of Vietnamese beauty.
They stepped off the screen but carried with them iconic images of Vietnamese women during the war.
The stories in the film “17th Parallel Day and Night” have become immortal anecdotes of a time when filmmaking was in the midst of bombs and bullets. The character Diu, played by People’s Artist Tra Giang, is a simple, gentle but brave and strong woman. Photo: ProducerThe film “Canh Dong Hoaang” was directed by People’s Artist Hong Sen. Actress Thuy An, then only 17 years old, played the role of Sau Xoa - the wife of Ba Do (People’s Artist Lam Toi). Although still very young, Thuy An completely transformed into the image of a hard-working wife and mother, and also a steadfast guerrilla, holding a child in one hand and a gun in the other. Thuy An plays Sau Xoa, a woman with a sad beauty and a strong, resilient inner self. Because the beauty of Vietnamese women at that time had to have a strong Hanoi character, both elegant and noble, kind and gentle, and also had a melancholy look.
