According to Article 1 of the Law on Prevention and Control of Domestic Violence 2007, domestic violence is "an intentional act of a family member that causes or is likely to cause physical, mental, and economic harm to another family member".
In Vietnam, the number of cases related to domestic violence is on the rise.
According to the National Report on violence against women in Vietnam in 2021 conducted by the General Statistics Office, nearly 63% of women who have been married or have had husbands have experienced at least one form of violence by their husbands/partners at some point in their life.
According to a report by hotline 111 in 2021, children who were abused by relatives in the family accounted for the highest rate, accounting for 72.84%, an increase of 5.3% compared to 2020.
The consequences of each act of domestic violence, whether directly or indirectly, have a negative impact on family happiness and social order, leaving serious consequences for both the physical and mental health of the victims.
The person being abused will have to go through panic, even depression, and confusion after being abused. Many people have not been able to overcome the pain caused by domestic violence.
For children, domestic violence creates a dark black spot in their childhood, affecting their psychology from a young age.
