Tragedy struck the small family of Nguyen Ngan - Thanh Quang when, while returning to her hometown, Ms. Ngan accidentally slipped and fell, resulting in a traumatic brain injury. She was taken to Cho Ray Hospital, but was sent back with a message telling her family to prepare for her "funeral".
Although his wife was in a vegetative state, Mr. Thanh Quang believed that "there is life, there is hope", so he tried to pray and take care of his wife.
And the joy came when not long after, Ms. Nguyen Ngan suddenly woke up, but in a state of amnesia, not even remembering the husband who had taken care of her for many days.
“When I woke up, I didn’t remember anything. I was shocked to know that I had a husband, children, and grandchildren. I love my husband so much. He took such good care of me. I just realized this love,” Ms. Nguyen Ngan emotionally recalled.
During the time his wife was in the hospital, Thanh Quang was on duty 24/7. “After my wife woke up, we transferred her to another hospital. From a vegetative state, my wife started to walk, but every night, she started to wander around. During that time, I didn’t dare sleep at night, I had to stay up to watch over her; if there was any noise in the bed, I had to open my eyes immediately,” Quang said.
Taking care of his wife all by himself, Thanh Quang not only does not feel miserable, but on the contrary, he feels lucky because after the "near-death" accident, his wife is still by his side, accompanying him. "My wife just takes care of me, I don't think about anything else, I don't feel miserable either...", Quang confided.
To help his wife recover her memory, besides recalling old stories, Thanh Quang always went with her and was close to her 24/7 every day. For more than a year, Thanh Quang temporarily put aside all work to wholeheartedly take care of his wife.
Touched by her husband's sincerity and devotion, Ms. Nguyen Ngan expressed: "My husband is thoughtful and affectionate. I feel very happy right now, I don't need anything more, just being by my husband's side, holding his hand is enough."
