According to Newsen, the movie "Bogota: City of the Lost" starring Song Joong Ki is having difficulties at the box office.
Data from the Korean Film Council on January 7 showed that “Bogota: City of the Lost” directed by Kim Seong Je, released on December 31, has so far accumulated 336,348 viewers.
Although it is a newly released film, “Bogota: City of the Lost” was surpassed by two previously released films, “Harbin” (directed by Woo Min Ho) and “Firefighters” (directed by Kwak Kyung Taek).
“Bogota: City of the Lost” tells the story of Guk Hee (played by Song Joong Ki), who travels to Bogota, Colombia — a land of new hope — after the IMF crisis.
There, he becomes entangled with influential figures in the local Korean community, such as Soo Young (Lee Hee Joon) and Sergeant Park (Kwon Hae Hyo).
Filming began in 2019 and took five years to release. Production faced many setbacks, including a halt to filming in Colombia due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Despite overcoming many challenges, the film still struggles to attract viewers and causes disappointment.
“Hopeless” (directed by Kim Chang Hoon) also stars Song Joong Ki, released in October 2023, but its box office revenue was also not good, attracting only 260,000 viewers.
On the online community theqoo, a post stated that Song Joong Ki is losing his form because of two consecutive failed films. This can be considered a setback in his career.
However, many opinions say that Song Joong Ki is not a good actor in the film industry. Apart from the work “Werewolf Boy”, the actor’s other films have not made an impression.
